A hernia occurs when the contents of abdomen bulge out of the area where they are normally contained. These contents, usually portions of intestine or abdominal fatty tissue known as omentum, are covered by a thin membrane ( Sac ) that lines the inside of the abdomen. Most of the Hernias occur in the lower abdomen in and around the genitalia.

Piles are swollen blood vessels in and around the rectum which can be painful or irritating. Piles are also termed as hemorrhoids. The hemorrhoidal veins located in the lower rectum and anus become swollen and cause irritation and pain while passing stools.

Depending on the area in which they occur hemorrhoids are classified into "External Hemorrhoids and Internal Hemorrhoids". Internal hemorrhoids are formed inside the rectum. Internal hemorrhoids can't be seen or felt. External hemorrhoids are formed below the skin of the anus and can be felt.

An Anal fistula is an abnormal, inflammatory, tube-like connection that forms between the wall of the bowel and the skin of the anus. A fistula is usually formed due to the repeated filling of an abscess with fluids from the body cavity.

Types of fistula:

• Blind (open on one end only, but connects to two structures)
• Complete (has both external and internal openings)
• Horseshoe (connecting the anus to the surface of the skin after going around the rectum)
• Incomplete (a tube from the skin that is closed on the inside and does not connect to any internal structure)
